3rd Quarter Updates and Emergency Preparedness
Dear Friends,
We are delighted to share some recent highlights of our work. Together, we are reinventing the future of aging. In Q3, we focused on financial security and creative expression as our quarterly impact areas. These impact areas focus on helping older adults spot misinformation, utilize banking resources, and find new ways to use technology to get creative.
We also rallied efforts in response to recent national disasters to help older adults prepare for emergencies. According to a new AARP survey, most older adults have not taken steps to ensure they receive information during a disaster. Only 1 in 5 seniors have downloaded disaster preparedness apps, signed up for text notifications, or followed resources on social media. In August, OATS Executive Director Tom Kamber hosted a Satellite Media Tour that involved 27 interviews with radio and broadcast stations nationwide and a disaster preparedness quiz, resulting in 1,321 placements with 24 million impressions. Tom’s message underscored the need for enhanced disaster preparedness among older adults.
Sincerely,
Suzanne Myklebust, Director of Communications
